FAQ | Abakus Financial Services

Questions? Good.

Here's what we hear most before someone books a call.

My books are a mess, or months behind. Can you still help?

That's most of our new clients. We'll get you set up with a fresh QuickBooks account and catch you up before we start the monthly rhythm.

Do I need to buy QuickBooks myself?

Yes — QuickBooks Simple Start runs about $38/month. Most clients add it to their Abakus bill for ease, though you're welcome to pay Intuit directly instead. Either way, we handle everything inside it.

What about reports?

QuickBooks has many reports you can pull from. At any time, you can log in to your QuickBooks account and access them yourself. If there's a specific report you need, we'll show you how to get to it — just ask us!

What if I have more than 100 transactions a month?

Every plan includes up to 100 transactions a month, and it's rare to go over if you're keeping the account to strictly business expenses. If you do run more, extra transactions are just $0.75 each.

Do you run payroll?

No, but we're happy to point you to Gusto, and we'll make sure your payroll entries land correctly in your books.

Will you work with my CPA?

Yes. Everything we do is CPA-ready, and we're glad to coordinate directly with them at tax time.

Do you work with Profit First?

Yes — we're happy to work alongside the Profit First method, and offer Profit First-specific plans if that's how you run your business.

What is reconciling?

Reconciling is the process of comparing your bank and credit card statements against what's in your accounting software, making sure there are no duplicates or missing transactions. It's how we make sure every transaction is accounted for.

How many accounts are included?

Every plan includes 2 accounts reconciled each month — 5 if you're on a Profit First plan. Need more than that? Additional accounts are $25/account/month.

What is considered a transaction?

A transaction is one line item on your bank or credit card statement. A payment processor deposit (like Stripe or Square) isn't counted until it hits your account — so if you received 5 Stripe payments that were deposited together in one batch, that's just one transaction.

Do you file my taxes?

No — we're bookkeepers, not accountants. Your reports stay CPA-ready, so your tax preparer has exactly what they need. We gladly work alongside them.

Do I still own my books?

Always. You're made primary admin in QuickBooks from day one — it's your data, your account.
